B&A: What do you think about vague first chapters?

Some ambiguity is good, but you don't want to leave everything unexplained. We need to know the setting, time period, and a few characters. You don't need to reveal the main plot climax or make clear what the resolutions to the character's internal issues should/will be, but we do need to get a sense of the issues.
