AVID Program: Do teachers give preferential treatment to students in AVID?

Do you think that AVID students get preferential treatment from teachers that have them in their cl? For example, do you think that is a teacher was grading an ignment that if it was like D+/C- work that he/she would grade the paper a C? Is AVID a disguised form of Affirmative Action?
